Shubman Gill’s second innings half-century in the fourth Test at Ranchi in a tricky run chase showed his maturity as a batter and calm head on his shoulders. However, despite having a decent series against England so far Gill’s overall Test record after 24 Tests has been mediocre.

Gill in his short career made 1382 runs at an average of 33.71 with three centuries to his name.

Let us have a look at how the other Indian legends have fared after 24 Tests in their careers

Sachin Tendulkar Overall career: 200 matches, 15921 runs @ 53.79 average and 51 centuries

The player who had carried the Indian batting lineup on his shoulders right from his debut against Pakistan and started with a 15. By 24 games the batter scored 1460 runs at an average of 44.24. He scored five tons and increasingly became an important cog in the Indian batting wheel in both home and away Tests.

Virat KohliOverall career: 113* matches, 8848 runs @ 49.61 average and 29 centuries

The Indian talisman made his debut against West Indies in Sabin Park and started with a horrid start to his red-ball career with a couple of low scores of 4 and 15. However, after 24 Tests he made 1721 runs at an average of 46.51. At this point in his career, Kohli would make six centuries.

Rahul DravidOverall career: 164 matches, 13288 runs @ 52.31 average and 36 centuries

Festive offer

The current Indian coach was one of the finest and most respected batters of his generation. He started with a bang in Test match cricket with a 95. After 24 games he would go on to 1833 runs at an average of 50.92. While the Indian Wall has only made 2 centuries by this point but would deliver consistent scores of 80s and 90s.

Sunil GavaskarOverall career: 125 matches, 10122 runs @ 52.31 average and 34 centuries

Unlike Kohli and Tendulkar the little master got off to a good start in his Test career against the mighty West Indies back in the day which had one of the terrifying pace attacks. He started with a 65 and 67* on his debut. By his 24 Test match, his average would already be 51.78 with 2123 runs to his name and scored most whooping eight tons at a very young age.
