An adorable guinea pig was found at a London Underground station with a note that read, ‘I need a new owner’.

Staff at Canning Town station in east London discovered the little brown and white pet sitting inside a cage at 4.20pm on February 18.

RSPCA inspector, Shahnaz Ahmad, collected the animal and took him to an animal welfare centre.

She said the guinea pig – who they’ve named DiscoPig – seemed healthy and well cared for but added: ‘It’s very sad that someone has abandoned their pet in this way.’

‘This guinea pig was found alone, guinea pigs are naturally sociable and normally prefer to be with one or more guinea pigs.

‘A guinea pig can develop abnormal behaviour and may suffer if they are left without company.

‘Abandoning pets in such a manner is an incredibly cruel thing to do and never the answer.’

The RSPCA is asking anyone with information about the guinea pig to contact the charity’s appeal line, confidentially on 0300 123 8018.

In January a litter of seven spaniel puppies found cowering in a field after being dumped have been rescued and are undergoing treatment.

The puppies were found with severe leg deformities, covered in mange, and infested with mites in Swanley, Kent, during cold temperatures.
