Ex-President Donald Trump claimed that ‘nobody speaks’ the languages of migrants entering the US in a speech from the southern border as President Joe Biden made a competing visit.
Trump made the false statement speaking from Eagle Pass, Texas, on Thursday, in an effort to gain support on his immigration initiatives as he campaigns to win the presidency in 2024.
‘Everybody I speak to says how horrible it is, nobody can explain to me how allowing millions of people from places unknown, from countries unknown, who don’t speak languages,’ said Trump.
‘We have languages coming into our country, nobody that speaks those languages. They’re truly foreign languages. Nobody speaks them.’
Migrants from Mexico and Central and most of South America speak Spanish. The 2019 Census reported that nearly 42million people living in the US spoke Spanish.
Trump also claimed that the ‘Joe Biden invasion’ has caused ‘migrant crime’ to surge.
The ex-president also said that migrants are ‘coming from jails, and they’re coming from prisons, and they’re coming from mental institutions, and they’re coming from insane asylums, and they’re terrorists’.
