With the prospect of World War III on the horizon a zombie apocalypse or an alien invasion doesn’t seem too far fetched.
So in news that will be welcoming for many, the safest place to survive an alien invasion or zombie apocalypse is right here in the UK – in the Scottish Highlands.
The study by JeffBet compared regions across the UK to 13 different metrics including population density and survival resources.
For Londoners the news is not so good, with nine boroughs being listed as the worst areas to survive an apocalypse.
The Scottish Highlands claimed top spot with a commendable score of 74.04 out of a potential 130 points.
A crucial factor in navigating a post-apocalyptic world is an area with low population density – something the Scottish Highlands has plenty of.
This means building remote shelters away from any scary aliens and zombie virus carriers is pretty easy.
Other locations in Scotland took the top spots including Argyll and Bute in second and the Orkney Islands in third.

A JeffBet spokesperson said: ‘It’s fascinating to discover which parts of the UK offer the best shot at survival during an apocalypse, with less populated areas and abundant natural resources coming out on top.
‘Interestingly, Stirling stands out as the only city that could potentially serve as a safe haven in apocalyptic circumstances. In fact, it’s good news for Scottish residents, as the study revealed there are plenty of Scottish areas perfect for surviving and hiding from the dangers of urban areas.
